Scarborough - Sun 23 Apr 2017

P6s and 7s, departure time is almost here! Bags packed and alarm clocks set! It's certainly looking more like fleeces and raincoats rather than T shirts and flip flops! The fun begins tomorrow at 5.45am - don't be late! See you then!

MONDAY 24th APRIL
After a smooth crossing and hearty breakfast on the ferry, we all arrived safely in Bonnie Scotland. We had a comfort break at Gretna Green but have no fear - no marriages took place!
Lunch in Penrith was very welcome before travelling on to Sion Hill Bird of Prey Centre. A kestrel, a vulture and an eagle demonstrated a fantastic display and the children were delighted to be given the opportunity to hold an owl and a kestrel on a glove. They were able to walk around and view a super selection of birds and enjoyed some shopping in the gift shop. Then it was straight to sunny Scarborough and the Granby Hotel where we received a very warm welcome from Gillian and Gary and a delicious dinner.
We have just returned from a game of football on the beach and the children are conscientiously writing their diaries before bed - hopefully!

TUESDAY 25th APRIL
Today started well after a good night's sleep last night - much to our amazement and relief! We have enjoyed an action packed day in York.
Yorkminster was absolutely breathtaking and the guides were really excellent. Such an incredible building with an amazing history.
The Chocolate Story was fantastic. The whole experience - sampling chocolate, watching chocolates being made, learning the history of chocolate, designing our own chocolate lollipop - absolutely awesome! A big thumbs up from everyone!
The children thoroughly enjoyed their role as archaeologists at the Jorvik Dig. They unearthed and examined bones and objects from the Roman, Viking, Medieval and Victorian eras.
The Ghost Walk took us down winding alley ways in York, with a graphic commentary throughout. A super end to a fun packed day.
Here's hoping for another good night's sleep! crying

WEDNESDAY 26th APRIL
Flamingo Land proved a great hit today and the children had an absolute blast. It seems children can't get enough of spinning around in every direction. The Splash Zone added the extra attraction of getting wet, much to their delight.
It wasn't all rollercoasters at Flamingo Land, there was also a fantastic zoo. Flamingos, emus, giraffes, camels, giraffes and penguins were all on display as well as baby joeys on the Wallaby Walk.
The Pirate Show was great fun and the pirates were equally entertained by the children's dancing.
Tonight's entertainment began with Ten Pin Bowling, followed by Karaoke back at the hotel. The singing and dancing is in full swing and the hotel is bouncing. Hopefully this will tire them out and they will sleep tonight as well as they have all week.
Not wanting to speak too soon, they have been a great bunch of kids and have thoroughly enjoyed their trip.
PS Hope you're enjoying the photos. Just to clarify - Ms Eakin is not wearing a lifejacket! Extra layers are essential to beat off the chilly temperatures!

THURSDAY 27th APRIL
Rooms were cleared and inspected and the Tidiest Room winners were announced. Well done to Olivia, Shenai and Katey for the girls and to Jake, Jake and Matthew for the boys.
We bid farewell to our hosts and headed to Eden Camp. We moved through a series of 29 huts, each telling the story of an aspect of the First or Second World Wars. The Puppet Show in the Music Hall was a real treat and very entertaining. The children all enjoyed showing their prowess on the Junior assault course, which built up an appetite for lunch which was enjoyed in a traditional Mess Hut.
The group enjoyed a final shopping spree in the gift shop before piling onboard the coach for the homeward journey. The travelling all went to schedule and the group returned to school, weary but safe and sound.
Thanks kids for a fantastic trip and remember -
